Covers are thick cardboard covered in cloth and relatively flimsy and the book, at over 820 pages, is heavy. Binding is still good but spine has split from book and cover is now attached at rear spine strip. Covers are off-black with gilt title to spine. Contents are relatively good with little foxing and there are many illustrations. The few colour illustrations have not survived so well, two have stuck to the pages of text and one, a ship that folds out to three feet, is split at the page edge. Fair.
