By a Gentleman of Covent-Garden Theatre. London: Printed for J. Walker...and J. Debrett..., 1785. FIRST EDITION. 8vo, 185 x 114 mms., pp. [iv], 204, including half-title, contemporary sheepskin, red leather label; very small burn-hole in H1, paper a little browned, but a very good copy, with the contemporary autograph "Vincenso Bertolacci" on the recto of the leaf preceding the half-title. Bellamy (1731 - 1788) died on 16 February 1788, but the conclusion of the volume suggests that it was written and perhaps published before her death. The tone of these "memoirs" is made clear in an early paragraph: "Why are not young women apprized, or why will they not believe, that almost all men, under the impulse of certain appetites or propensities, will say what they do not mean, and promise without any intention to perform."
