Paris, Gruel Engelmann. 1883, 1st Thus. Full Crushed Morocco Gilt, 16mo. Basically a sumptuous binding in maroon crushed morocco with multiple gilt rulings and spandrels in the corners. Spine gilt dec compartments between raised bands. Inner gilt dentelles and silk endpapers. The front free endpaper is stamped with a gilt monogram and a date. The text is illustrated with very high quality engravings in the manner of Durer, and all the margins throughout are illuminated in grisaille. All edges are gilt over marbling. The bad news is that the joints are slightly rubbed, and the upper joint is just starting to crack at the head. Near Fine/N/a.
