Head and tail of spine and hinges rubbed, small hair-line crack to upper hinge, title page lightly browned, contents otherwise clean, binding tight and firm. A good copy of a scarce book (lacking part of the folding plate as noted). The book was first published in Edinburgh in 1776. The author deals with the causes of smoky houses, faults in the structure of chimneys, instructions to masons and inexperienced architects for effectively carrying off the smoke, causes other than the chimneys themselves, for example the position of the house or its internal divisions.
