Contains one of the earliest British printings in book form of THE AMERICANS' DECLARATION OF INDEPENDENCE in Congress 4th July 1776, printed in full. J. Dodsley, 1777. 8vo, 200 x 130 mm, 8 x 5 inches, pages iv, 192, 113-270, 259, (9), the irregular pagination is the same in all copies, bound in full contemporary calf, gilt ruled border to covers, raised bands and gilt rules to spine, gilt lettered morocco label. Spine darkened and rubbed, slightly chipped at head, small crack at tail, some hair-line surface cracks, upper hinge cracked but still holding firmly, 3 minor scuffs to covers, contents bright and clean, binding tight and firm. A good copy. The Declaration of Independence is followed by the XVI Articles of Confederation between the thirteen colonies, resolved and signed at Philadelphia on 4 Oct. 1776 (pages 261-270).
