London, 1689. in twelve parts: Relating to the Great Revolutions in England and Scotland, from the time of the seven Bishops petitioning King James II. against the dispensing power, June 8. 1688 to the coronation of King William and Queen Mary, April 11. 1689. FIRST COLLECTED EDITION, printed by J. D. for R. Clavel, Henry Mortlock, and Jonathan Robinson, 1689, small 4to, 195 x 140 mm, 7¾ x 5½ inches, each part with separate title page, pagination and register, pages: (10), 34; (2), 34; (2), 38; (2), 34; (2), 34; (2), 34; (2), 34; (2), 34; (2), 34; (2), 34; (2), 34; (2), 40, pagination irregular in Part 5 but nothing missing, catchwords correct, bound in full antique calf, blind ruled border to covers, raised bands and old hand lettered paper label to spine. Head and tail of spine and hinges rubbed, very small crack at head of spine, 20 mm (1 inch) crack at top of upper hinge, corners slightly worn, covers slightly worn and slightly pitted, front inner paper hinge partly cracked, front endpaper slightly chipped, vertical crease to Contents page and title page of first part, title page cropped at top in Part 6, affecting 'A Sixth', 1 lower margin corner torn off, small chip to 1 lower margin, several pages lightly browned, 8 pages slightly foxed, binding tight and firm. A very good copy of a scarce work. These twelve parts were originally published singly as pamphlets and as such have small stabholes in the inner margins. The title pages to the first 11 parts read: A Collection of Papers relating to the present juncture of affairs in England, the title page to Part 12 reads: The Twelfth and Last Collection of Papers (Vol. I.) relating to the present juncture of affairs in England and Scotland. No further volumes were published. Parts 1 and 2 are 3rd editions, Part 3 is a 2nd edition and the rest are 1st editions. Parts 4 and 5 are dated 1688, the rest 1689. The imprints read: London printed, and are to be sold by Richard Janeway. The collection was edited with a general title, an address To the Reader and 4 pages of the Contents of the Collection. The editorship of the Collection has been ascribed by Lowndes to Bishop Gilbert Burnet of Salisbury. Images sent on request.
