Edinburgh. The pages of the Pyrotechny entry are taken from the third edition of the Encyclopaedia Britannica and bound with the title page to Volume III. Edinburgh, A. Bell and C. MacFarquhar, 1797. 4to, 270 x 205 mm, 10½ x 8 inches, 5 splendid copper plate engravings, 4 showing fireworks, 33 pages, bound in modern quarter cloth over paper boards, gilt dividing lines, gilt rules and lettering to spine. Occasional small pale spot, otherwise condition excellent throughout. The article deals with recreational fireworks only "those made for amusement's sake, as rockets, stars, serpents, &c". Section I: Of Ingredients and Compositions; Section II: Of Moulds, Cases, Mixture, Instruments, &c.; Section III: To load air-balloons, with the number of stars, serpents, snakes, rain-falls, &c. in shells of each nature; Section IV: Different kinds of rockets, with their appendages and combinations; Section V: Of wheels and other works; Section VI: Aquatic fire-works.
