Antwerp. 4to, Antwerp, ex Officina Plantiniana, 1664. 260 x 195 mm, 10.5” x 7.5”, engraved pictorial title page, 2 pictorial initials, other decorated initials, publisher’s pictorial device on final blank after New Testament and on final blank after index, pages (8), 1055, 30 - Oratio Manasse, Liber Esdrae tertius and quartus, (52) – Hieronymi Prologus Galeatus and other prefaces, plus index, text in double columns with verse numbers in central columns and references in the margins, each page being enclosed within rules, bound in full antique calf, raised bands to spine, gilt decoration in compartments, gilt lettered morocco label, edges speckled red. Binding worn, upper hinge cracked and holding on the cords, head of spine chipped, maximum 10 mm (3/8”), small chip to bottom of hinges, gilt slightly worn, mainly in top compartment, corners worn with board showing, covers scratched and rubbed, front endpaper missing, title page dusty in margins and with tiny stain on background, tiny chip to 1 upper margin, very occasional pale mark to margins, 3 small pale stains on text, 2 very small closed margin tears, repaired, faint damp stain to margins at lower centrefold starting on page 867 and continuing to the end, gradually becoming slightly darker and larger, slight binding crease to a couple of pages, final page has a neat line of handwriting at the top. Text block tight and firm, no loose pages. Overall a good clean copy of the Clementine bible printed by the famous Plantin Press. Not listed in Darlow and Moule. Images sent on request.
