Very early reprint, 283 x 220 mm, 11" x 8", blue cloth backed blue boards, lettered navy blue on spine, in cream on front on large colour plate (repeat of title page), lovely illus endpapers tinted cream, 83 pp. Colour frontispiece and full page colour title illustration of singing child seated on a crescent moon, plus 12 utterly enchanting colour plates (1 is a repeat of frontispiece), black and white illustration to half-title and decorated black and white headpieces to each of the 12 charming poems. Slightest crumple to cloth at head and tail. Exceptionally bright near Fine copy in very good dustwrapper (20 mm missing at tail, just extending 5 mm onto panels either side, 10 mm chips head of both hinges, 3 mm hole on rear hinge, 50 mm closed tear on rear panel, few other very short closed tears and tiny chips). The first printing (1915) has gilt lettering to the spine but is otherwise identical to this edition. The plate to Orion was dropped from later editions. It shows the fearsome hunter with spear and hound flying through the night sky holding a beautiful small child. Images sent on request. Offered for GBP 185.00 = appr.
