FIRST EDITION, FIRST ISSUE. 180 x 130 mm, 7¼" x 5¼", colour frontispiece and extra coloured illustrated title page and six full page colour plates (the shark attack plate being at page 76 as it should be in 1st issue), 438 pages, followed by 2 blank pages, original publisher's decorated blue cloth, gilt pictorial decoration to spine and upper cover, original pale yellow endpapers. Binding rubbed with slight loss of gilt, small tear to head of spine neatly repaired with new cloth, 3 tiny chips to bottom of spine, slight wear to extremities, spine slightly crinkled, front inner paper hinge cracked. Pale foxing and fingermarking to margins, some margins stained, some small unsightly brown stains to 1 text page, paler on adjacent page, 10 mm closed tear to 1 lower margin, tiny chip to lower margin of frontispiece, minute chip to 1 lower corner and 1 top edge, 10 mm chip to 1 fore-edge, 1 top corner creased, very faint water staining to some fore-edge margins, neat contemporary ink inscription on first free yellow endpaper. A good copy of scarce first issue. Correct points for first issue: frontispiece contiguous with title page, gilt illustrated roundel on upper cover and shark attack plate at page 76.
