First edition, 265 x 205 mm, 10½" x 8", de luxe binding in dark brown cloth, a rose in gilt and cream at each corner and titled gilt on front on orange, cream and gilt panel, gilt lettered spine, all edges gilt, 57 pp. Frontis and 9 beautiful chromolitho plates with captioned guards, printed by the Leighton Bros. Charming black and white text illus. Head, tail and corners slightly worn, with tiny chips to cloth, 50 mm split to cloth at tail of upper hinge, now neatly stuck, 5 x 2 mm chip to cloth 10 mm above tail on hinge, some light flecking to lower half of front cover, a very small 'cup' ring also, both affecting background only. Endpapers foxed, 1 or 2 very pale fingermarks. Contents exceptionally nice. VG+
