Frowde/Hodder & Stoughton 1st (1912). 36 delightful mounted col pls, 30 single & 6 double page, many charming large line illus, all of dressed animals, sometimes beautifully attired, sometimes not. Stories: the adventures of Hungry Peter, the Pig; Rufus, the Cat; Humpty & Dumpty, the Rabbits; Rags, the Dog; Master Quack, the Duckling; and Forager, the Puppy. 248 x 210, 9¾" x 8½", cloth backed, extra embossed coloured plate mounted on front board, lettered gilt on front & spine, b/w illus to spine, top edge gilt, no pagination. Expertly rebacked & restitched, original backstrip laid down, 5 mm missing from head & tail of original, slight wear to 'C' & 'A' at top of spine, couple of minute rust marks near tail, corners slightly worn, few tiny scratches to plate on front board, rear boardd lightly marked. Occasional slight faint foxing & occasional pale fingermark, few plate mounts a little worn along edges, 2 mounts reinserted, 1 with small amount of cream paper adhering to inner margin, little pencil erased from lower margin of 1 text page & 1 mount, leaving slight scoring. VG copy of scarce wonderful book. Images sent on request.
