First edition hard back binding in publisher's original camel brown cloth covers, brown lettering and turquoise illustration to the spine all but faded away, dark brown lettering and girl in a turquoise dress sitting in a chair to the front cover. 8vo 7'' x 5'' 328 pp. 3 [of 4] monochrome illustrations. Author of 101 girls' stories, chiefly with school settings. A holiday spent in the Austrian Tyrol at Pertisau-am-Achensee gave her the inspiration for the first location in the Chalet School series. Her teaching career spanned 36 years with her final post as Headmistress of a school in Hereford. She also wrote plays and numerous unpublished poems and was a keen musician. Message dated 1923 to the front free end paper, while the covers are secure to the text, the paper gutters are torn, foxing to the end papers and page edges, no dust wrapper.
