Description: William Pine, Bristol, 1789. First Edition, Hardcover. Very Good Condition/not applicable. Handsome copy. Very good quality 19th century half calf binding, raised bands, morocco spine label, gilt lettered and decorated. There is some light wear to the edges of the binding but it is an extremely sound example. Text block tight and sound, generally clean but with some scattered foxing and some offsetting of plates onto their facing pages. There are scholarly and informative ink annotations to some pages, all carefully avoiding the text. They are in a good clear hand and have an early 19th century look about them. Armorial bookplate ( not identified ) to front pastedown. xix + 704 pages, fldg. map plus 30 engraved plates ( collates as per Upcott pp1160 ) including the facsimiles of the Rowley and Chatterton mss.
