Michael Hamburger was born in 1924 in Berlin, emigrating to Great Britain in 1933, and was educated at Westminster School and Christ Church, Oxford. He was a lecturer in German at the universities of London and Reading, and a visiting professor at Mount Holyoke College, Mass and at the State University of New York at Buffalo. He has published five collections of poetry (at the time of publication), written critical works, and is well known for his prize winning translations of German poetry. He was twice awarded Bollingen Foundations Fellowships. Book - Fine. Dust Jacket - Very Good - two inch or so closed tears to front top edge, some yellowing and grubbiness to cream background.
