London, Longmans, Green, and Co., 1898 Beige pictorial boards, 7.5 x 4.75 inches approx., front board with gold lettering and full length portrait of a 'cavelier' to the right hand side the head backed by gold window, typical wear that would be expected from a book of this age, minor creasing to extremities, some soiling, spine less bright than front board, decorative endpapers of swans and sailing ships in sepia tones, front endpaper s followed by an ink inscription a small portion of which has blotted onto the opposite page, it is written from the 'officers and lads' to a comrade in Guys Hospital May 1898, tissue protected black and white frontispiece,with 24 illustrations by Claude A Shepperson, 410 pages followed by advertisement, some foxing and soiling to pages. Very slight weakness to hinges but on the whole a good reading copy that has a bit of character.
