Broadsheet printed on one side only, (453 x 403mm), headed by an engraved map of Goree (350 x 160mm) showing Fort St. Michael and Fort St. Francis, below this is a view of the Island (195 x 135mm) depicting a heavily fortified rock and walled harbour with ships in the bay, to the right of this is a map of Cape Verd marking Goree, the letterpress text below is a description and history of the island, culminating in the surrender of the French garrison to the British in December 1758, with index to 18 significant buildings and fortifications on Goree, wormhole track running into the map of Cape Verd. Goree Island became a major holding area for slaves before being transported to the Americas. A rare broadsheet; Copac records just the British Library copy; not on ESTC or OCLC.
