Part II. 1874. ix + 187pp. The commission was appoin ted as a result of agitation by the British Medical Association for a commission to revise and consolidate the laws relating to sanitary facilities and public health and to devise a system for the collection of medical statistics. The public health service was administered by some several hundred local boards. Evidence showed that many towns were regulated by outdated by-laws. Progressive councils lacked the legal powers to carry out town improvements. The reports are justly regarde as the first major survey of Britsh local government administration and led to the establishment of a local government board to regulate and inspect local authorities. Very clean copies.
