Cover slightly grubby otherwise good clean copy. The Select Committee were appointed to inquire into and report as to the expediency of constructing public works in India with money raised on loan, both as regards financial results, and the prevention of famine in 1878. Unable to conclude their investigation from the previous session of Parliament (see Parliamentary paper HC 333 of 1878 containing the bulk of evidence gathered) the Select Committee was reconvened in February 1879 to finalise their investigation. With fold out Sketch Map of India (including Burma) divided into rainfall tracts dated 1878. A note states "This map is given in lieu of the Map of 1872 referred to in the Report, as it contains later information.".
