Description: London, House of Commons. 1828. 62pp. Folio. Rebound in card covers. British Parliamentary Paper HC494. Investigation of the practice of supplying labour to farms paid partly or wholey out of poor law funds. The committee sought to reduce benefits as they resulted in a dependence on benefits, encouraged marriage & the farthering of unwanted children as a means to increasing benefit. Evidence on workhouse conditions, discipline was considered lax. Parliamentary reports of this period are rare. It was not until 1836 that provision was made for their sale to the public. A clean copy.
