Some light browning, occasional marginal staining, sm. booksellers ink stamp to head of t.p., with the armorial bookplate of Thomas Gillibrand Esq. Chorley, signs of another bookplate removal, contemporary calf, some wear with surface loss to boards and loss to corners, joints cracked. ¶ ESTC T153577. ‘With a list of subscribers and an index. At foot of p.448: The end of the first volume; no more published. ’Proposals for printing by subscription, Monasticon Eboracense’ were issued in [1757?]. An appendix was issued in 1759.’ Upcott pp.1351-2. ‘This work was intended to be completed in two volumes and the plates inserted in the present were intended to be inserted in the second volume but the author dying Feb. 21 1771 the design was never completed ....’ It would appear that some volumes were issued with only three folding plans/maps although a further four plates are listed and do appear in some volumes. It may be they were issued later for inclusion, see Upcott, who only lists the three folding plans/maps.
