Description: London, Printed for A Millar in the Strand And R and J Dodsley in Pallmall, 1755, 2nd edition, corrected Full calf, G. [ii]+xvi+[2]+384pp, engraved frontis, leather rather rubbed & hinges both split but held by the cords, leather lettering piece largely missing, early Bookplate of Dacre, good margins, internally a nice copy. Hardback , no dustjacket. Second edition, published the same years as the first of a series of letters by Edward Young [ 1683 - 1765 ] who is best remembered as the author of the 'Night Thoughts'. The Centaur is a collection of 6 letters which have as a subject 'Men of Pleasure, the licentious and profligate'. The letters illustrated the error of their ways and offer the course of salvation. The frontis shows a Centaur, leading the foolish towards damnation infront of a parkland view with a Pagoda.
