These finely delinated maps also include town plans, crests, family mottoes, and even small vignettes of battle scenes. Folio (22.5 x 17.5 inches), 15 x 20 inches image area ideal for framing. Very fine. Speed was an historian and cartographer, originally from Cheshire, but his working life was largely in London. Between 1608 and 1610 Speed published a series of maps of England and Wales, of which the maps of Cornwall, Essex, Middlesex, Surrey, and Sussex were by Norden, and the others were by Christopher Saxton. These were collected in 1611 in his "Theatre of the Empire of Great Britaine". A second edition appeared in 1614, and a third edition in 1627 with the title "A Prospect of the most Famous Parts of the World". A new edition appeared in 1676. A Latin version was published in 1616 and reprinted in 1646. A splendid black and white print, ideal for framing. Posted rolled in a tube for protection. Item Type: Map. Quantity Available: 1.
