With numerous coloured drawings throughout the book by the author, plus some maps. The author was born in Poland. In 1940 he to England and trained as a fighter pilot. In 1943, with a group of Polish pilots, he volunteered to go to North Africa where he and the others fought alongside the British 145 Squadron. In 1944 he was promoted to Squadron Leader of 316 Squadron. In September of 1944, during a flight over Holland, his plane caught fire and he was forced to bale out. He was captured and taken to Stalag Luft I prisoner of war camp. It was during the seven months in this camp that he wrote what he called his ‘Log Book’ Prisoner of War. The journal was done by Arct purely to amuse his fellow inmates and to provide release and relaxation for himself. During his war service he received two important Polish decorations for bravery in the field, the Virtuti Militari and the Krzyz Walecznych, the latter four times. Fine. Offered for GBP 11.50 = appr.
