Helen, faced with the loss of Heine, must also confront the dangers of the London blitz and the heart breaking decision to allow Christoph to be evacuated to the safety of a village in Norfolk. Lonely, frightened, bullied for his father's origins, Christoph is befriended by Ed, an American airman at the local base.
