A very good original binding; light blue cloth covered boards, with dark blue titles. Spine dulled and sunned. corners and edges rubbed and bumped. Presentation label to the verso of the front board: "This Book was presented to the Library of the Royal Colonial Institute by The Author June, 1910". Printed "Library Regulations.." laid-down to front endpaper. Hand written note to verso of front endpaper: "To the Royal Colonial Institute Library. presented by the Author*, together with a purple date stamp: "24 May 1910". The frontis is a black & white image of "a Painting in the Freemason's Hall, Calcutta." However the title has been corrected by hand to Read; The Most Noble The Marquis Of Hastings (formerly The Marquis Of Dalhousie). Printed title with ink stamp of; "Royal Colonial Institute". Clean text throughout, except for a few neat spelling mistake corrections. A well preserved copy of this scarce book. Contents include: The Provincial Grand Lodge in the unrecorded period, 1729-1774; The earliest Bengal Lodges, 1728-1730; Masonry in Calcutta, 1774-1781; Abeyance and Revival, 1781-1785; The Williamson-Fenwick Split; Private Lodges in Bengal, 1785-1791; Period of Secession; The Revival of the Provincial Grand Lodge under the Marquess of Hastings to its Abeyance in 1828; Disruption of the Craft in bengal and Abeyance of the Provincial Grand Lodge; The private Lodges, 1828-1840; Appendix I.
