Dark brown calf over yellow marbled boards with matching page edges and endpapers. All three spines carefully repaired, preserving original volume labels and gilt decorated raised bands. New leather title labels sympathetic to the age have been added to finish off the set. 3 volumes, 12mo, each measures 7.5" x 5" x 1": Vol. I.: [4pp.]/pp.348 ; Vol. II.: [4pp.]/pp.300 ; Vol. III.: [4pp.]/pp.310. An extract from "British Fiction 1800-1829 - Contemporary Reviews". Reads: "Alla Giornata;" or, To The Day,’ a novel in three volumes, from the pen, as we have some reason to think, of Lady Charlotte Susan Maria Berry [sic], better known as Lady Charlotte Campbell, the mother of Lady Tullamore, abounds with beautiful sketches of scenery and of character. Ildegarda, the heroine, is finely, sweetly conceived. Richness of fancy and elegance of mind indicate the superiority of the work, and of its author."Lady Charlotte Bury (1775 - April 1, 1861), was an English novelist. Also known as; Lady Charlotte Susan Maria Campbell, was the daughter of Field Marshal Sir John Campbell, 5th Duke of Argyll and Elizabeth Campbell, 1st Baroness Hamilton. Lady Charlotte married Colonel John Campbell on 21 June 1796. Her second husband was the Reverend Edward John Bury, whom she married on 17 March 1818. Her novels included Flirtation, Separation, The Divorced, etc, but is chiefly remembered in connection with a Diary illustrative of the Times of George IV (1838), a somewhat scandalous work generally, and probably correctly, ascribed to her. She also wrote some poems and two devotional works. She held for some time an appointment in the household of Caroline of Brunswick, Princess of Wales - See Wikpedia.
