Paris : Printed for Rene' Guignard, at the sign of S. Basil, in S. Jacques Street, 1677 . Avec Privilege du Roy. Small 8vo. 16cm x 10cm x 3cm. Marbled page edges. Later cloth binding with gilt title and date to spine. Free-endpaper with binder's stamp: "Speakman, Binder, Liverpool." 12pp./pp.166/1p./p.167-p.529/21pp.["Postscript from the publisher"] . Before the main text are the: Printed title (verso blank), followed by; "The Publisher To The Reader"; "A Summary Of The Chief matters contained in these Dialogues"; followed by "Errata." The second title page: "The Second Part Of Just Discharge.." appears after p.166. Each section has an engraved head and tailpiece. There are a few light spots and stains to page borders, but overall t is clean English text throughout. A well preserved book. See WingSTC: G919 ** Thomas Godden (True name Tylden) Born at Addington, Kent, 1624; died in London, 1 Dec, 1688. He joined the Catholic Church in 1641 and travelled to the English college at Lisbon. He rapidly ascended the ladder of academic distinction. By 1660 he had established so general a reputation for eloquence and piety that the Princess Catherine of Braganza, about to become the bride of Charles II, brought Godden to England with her, as her private chaplain. He was well received in his native country and enjoyed every evidence of royal favour.(from newadvent site).
