Brown hardback half-leather cover on marbled boards. 280mm x 190mm (11" x 7"). [17pp], 438pp. Illustrated with frontis engraving; six plates (five folding); numerous illustrations within the text. William Leybourn was a printer before working as a land and quantity surveyor. He was one of the surveyors of London after the great fire of 1666 where he was associated with Robert Hooke. His book was one of the standard treatises on surveying throughout the second half of the 17th. and beginning of the 18th. century.. G: in good condition. Modern rebind with new endpapers. Previous owner's bookplate to front pastedown. Prelim advertising leaf trimmed with a little loss of a couple of letters. Sm. marginal tear to pp 395-6 with no loss to text .
