London, Printed John Beale for Philip Waterhouse 1st first edition 1631 . 135x78mm contemporary panelled calf on 4 raised bands (upper cover almost detached & with upper cormer of leather missing, repair to foot of spine). Lacks the frontispiece (supplied in facsimile) and both free endpapers. Titlepage +[16]pp +234pp titlepage edge-browned and with small losses to edges and rubbing. All text within ruled borders with fore-edge space for occaisional side notes. Repairs to tears without loss to 9 leaves, 5 leaves with marginal loss not affecting text. Imperfect copy of a scarce and very interesting book: the first edition of the first account of Queen Elizabeth I's early years.
