Octavo laced through vellum with yapp fore-edge (tips rubbed) [30] +448pp +[15]pp index +approbation +blank. Bookplate of Jesuit Dom. Prob. Roehampton, and purple stamp of Tertians' Library to front endpapers. Same stamp to margin of titlepage and 2 ownerships to top margin of title, earlier one undated the other 1895. A neat crisp tight copy. *Camillo de Lellis was first a professional soldier, after being admitted to hospital in Rome he stayed to help the sick. He persisted in trying to enter a religious order, finally founding one to look after the dying and plague victims. He had to struggle against his hot nature, infirmities, lack of education and rough army experiences which included war against the Turks to become a compassionate and pious founder of his own religious order ministering to the sick. After his death miracles were reported in his name and he was canonized in 1746.
