Octavo contemporary blind-stamped pig over wooden bevelled boards on 3 raissed bands with 2 functioning engraved brass clasps (slight spotting/tips rubbed) All Edges Blued. Titlpage +15pp +[36]pp index +[20]pp to reader & Preface +322 leaves (ie 644pages) +2nd Titlepage with Printer's mark of Time the reaper + To the reader on back of title +30 leaves (60pages) + Privilege dated Sept 1563 + Imprint dated February 1565. Lacks last leaf except for the stub. Narrow strip cut off top of the titlepage with old repair to make good an old inscription. *An historical work on the life and writings of Luther from Cochlaeus' anti Reformation perspective. He wrote many other pamphlets against Luther and Melanchthon, Zwingli, Henry VIII and other Protestant figures of his day. This work remains of interest as a contemporary account of Luther by his enemies (Adams C2270). A lovely copy in contemporary pigskin binding with clasps.
