P.Prost, Philippi Borde & Laurentii Arnaud 1648 Copperplate engraved title with allegorical figures and cameos of Judith with Holofernes' head, St. Ignatius Loyola and other famous Jesuits, a few nice large firgural head- and ta. Folio rolled pigskin on 5 raised bands with 1 of two working clasps and manuscript spine title, over oak boards with champfered edges, 4 decorative bands and central lozenge with angel playing an instrument on front board and figure of Justice holding a sword & scales on rear (tips bit worn and a few scratches but lovely). Half title + fine engraved title with angels & putten, rococco architectural frames for 6 cameos + [16]pp dedication & contents +710pp +[96]pp of index with the last page blank. LACKS p33/4. Slight marginal worming to first 6 and last 4 leaves (in both cases this includes blank leaves and no loss to letters but just touching the outermost line of the engraved title in one place). Halftitle with Monastery Waldsass in old manuscript, Titlepage with Collegii Passavensis dated 1668 (twice) in manuscript and later small stamp to outer margin. Faint foxing and some insignificant marginal damp marks otherwise clean, tight and paper supple with very little signs of use. In double column with side notes. An extensive commentary on the book of Judith in a fine rolled pigskin folio.
