RUSKIN,JOHN [AND OTHERS] FRIENDSHIP'S OFFERING; and Winter's Wreath a Christmas and New Year's Present for MCCCCXXXVIII (1838)London, Smith, Elder & Co. 1838 Steel engraved plates (10) + presentation plate by Courbould, Richter, Stanfield etc. . Octavo pretty gilt elaborately embossed maroon roan (tips slightlly rubbed but very crisp and bright) All edges Gilt xii+384pp. The plate pages have a marginal tan dampstain along the bottom which is sometimes offset to the preceding and following text page but does not affect the illustrations. Otherwise no foxing, and very minor signs of use except "presented to Miss Wren ..H.H.C." Includes stories by Agnes Strickland, G.P.R James, Leitch Ritchie et al. Early poetry by John Ruskin while he was at Oxford signed J.R. A Lovely Victorian binding (cf. Rauri McLean's Victorian Book Design for others in the series).
