Duodecimo laced in vellum boards, manuscript title to spine (darkened & marked/head & foot of spine chipped down/small leather losses). Extra leaf laid down to inside of cover which is probably not part of this volume. It has a (coin?) portrait of Alexander which has been given moustache, eyebrows and beard by some previous owner. Engraved titlepage is partly loose and has a repair where part of margin cut was away to remove name. Printed titlepage repaired to top margin same reason +[14pp dedication & prefaces] + folding map +552pp +[52pp of indices] rear pastedown with notes & scribbles slightly offset onto last index page. The map has been colored red for the European Scythians and green for the Asiatic Scythians. Some marginal writing to top margin of map and writing to verso also. Half a dozen pages with marginal tears or holes only one of which seems to affect a letter or two. Quite extensive marginal indicators and some underlining. Oviously a well used copy but tight and all text entirely legible and pages sound.
