Paris, Sebastianum Nivellium 1575 . BOUND WITH : Divi Irenaei GRAECI SCRIPTORIS Episcopi Lugdunensis, Libri Quinque Aduersus portentosas haereses Valentini & aliorum, accuratius quam antehac emendati, additis Graecis quae reperiri potuerunt: opera & diligentia Nicolai Gallasii, S. Theologiae professoris: Una cum eiusdem annotationibus. Additus est etiam index locupletissimus. Reliqua sequens pagina indicabit. Switzerland (Lausanne or Geneva?) 1570 Folio new glace calf, faux raised bands, contrasting gilt label & gilt date 1570 (only) to spine (tips slightly rubbed) [32]+383pp (recte 391 as 366-373 appear twice) +(1)+40pp +(50) lacking a last blank & [20]+408pp+[24pp (=22pp of index and 23&4 being called for blank at end). The Parisian work has a large 5-partite printer's mark to the title of a stork carrying another stork over a city while feeding it. The surrounding roundelles are of classical or biblical scenes. It is edited by Francois Feuardent (or Feu-ardent) and has a final Schola by Jacques de Billy (1535-1581). There is a life of Saint Irenaeus and a dedication to Cardinal Carlo Borbonio at the beginning of the volume (Graesse III/429). The Swiss titlepage has two corners restored where marginal paper has been torn away but no print is affected and the gutter has some restoration, either partial rehinging or repair, there is also a stamp 1840 with an inked 7 following the ?date?. Two pages in this title are misnumbered and F6 is torn with small marginal loss (1cm) not touching text or side notes. This work was edited by Nicolas Des Gallars, who was active c.1520-ca.1580. It has parallel Greek/Latin text in double columns to Part 1 which is Epiphanius, Bishop of Constantia in Cyprus's "Panarion". An old leaf of manuscript notes is bound in at p357. Both books have nice decorative initials and head- and tail-pieces, side notes. Text in Latin (except for a part in Greek with parallel translation, see above). All pages, except two as noted, are in nice condition with very light occasional foxing/tanning.
