Small quarto red gilt pictorial cloth (chipping of gold leaf off the cover/tips of spine slightly frayed) Unpaginated but 90 pages discarded library stamp to foot of 3rd page and foot of last page and discard stamp to front EP and note "does not circulate" with smaller "officially noted" below. Date of discard on REP. There is a printing flaw on 2 pages in that the last 7 lines are overprinted with fainter, different verses. Spine has library number blacked out. *First 23pp = Hoffman's stories and pictures, pp24-90 are NEW but IMITATIVE stories depicting gluttony, liars, thief, laziness, cry baby, envious, dirty, cruel, slovenly, proud, discontent, idleness, heedlessness, simplicity, prying etc. then 5 verse-stories unlike the previous format & illustrations. In spite of faults this is one of the few copies that have supple and strong paper. Winston printed on cheap paper, most copies have myriad small tears to head and foot of many pages but this has only one marginal tear.
